Number of Years

-Here’s another card we made in our February class which I CASE’d from .  It features the Number of Years stamp set and the coordinating Large Numbers Framelits Dies (Occasions Catalog pp. 10-11).  While the numbers are what stand out the most when first looking at this set, the floral spray, banner and sentiments are the true heart of this very versatile set.

We started by stamping the spray of leaves and stems in Old Olive ink on Whisper White.  We added the 2 roses in Watermelon Wonder, and the multi-dot blossoms in Pool Party.  Then the “Look Who’s Turning” sentiment was stamped in Watermelon Wonder and an Oval Framelits die was used to cut it out.  We stamped the banner image in Mossy Meadow and added the “again” in Watermelon Wonder on a scrap, and cut it out with the matching Framelit in the Large Numbers set.

The numbers were stamped in VersaMark on Vellum card stock and embossed with gold embossing powder before cutting them with the Large Numbers Dies.  You could use 29 or whatever number you felt appropriate, naturally!  The numbers were popped up with small pieces of Stampin’ Dimensionals.

A piece of Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper (OC p. 9) was adhered to a panel of Blushing Bride, and then to a Mossy Meadow card base.  A ½” x 12″ strip of a different Birthday Bouquet DSP was cut in half, then curled with a bone folder.  We made 2 overlapping loops out of each one and adhered them on either side of the panels, then mounted the oval and banner pieces on top with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  

We added a piece of Whisper White on the inside to write on, and many chose to repeat the floral spray in one corner to dress it up.

This card design was heavily inspired by ones by Linda Heller and Julie Kettlewell.  Linda has a nice video showing how to make the paper “ribbon” loops as well as a trick for using Press-n-Seal plastic wrap to position the numbers.

The coordinating stamp set, Tin of Cards, is not included, but as you saw in yesterday’s post is a very versatile set to have in your collection.  You will also need some inks…SU! wants you to use Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry, Mint Macaron and JetBlack StazOn, but in truth you could make very nice-looking cards with just the StazOn or other black ink (the StazOn is preferred because there are a few slick surfaces for you to stamp on).
